Goodreads Summary:
Just typical. No love life to speak of for months, then all at once, every horny creature in the Otherworld wants to get in your pants. . .
Eugenie Markham is a powerful shaman who does a brisk trade banishing spirits and fey who cross into the mortal world. Mercenary, yes, but a girl's got to eat. Her most recent case, however, is enough to ruin her appetite. Hired to find a teenager who has been taken to the Otherworld, Eugenie comes face to face with a startling prophecy—one that uncovers dark secrets about her past and claims that Eugenie's first-born will threaten the future of the world as she knows it.
Now Eugenie is a hot target for every ambitious demon and Otherworldy ne'er-do-well, and the ones who don't want to knock her up want her dead. Eugenie handles a Glock as smoothly as she wields a wand, but she needs some formidable allies for a job like this. She finds them in Dorian, a seductive fairy king with a taste for bondage, and Kiyo, a gorgeous shape-shifter who redefines animal attraction. But with enemies growing bolder and time running out, Eugenie realizes that the greatest danger is yet to come, and it lies in the dark powers that are stirring to life within her...
My Review:
Storm Born is the 1st book in the Dark Swan series. Eugenie Markham is a shaman for hire in Tucson, Arizona. Suddenly she's being propositioned by every spirit and Otherworld being that she's coming in contact with.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I love Richelle Mead's style of writing. Eugenie is a fun character. She's a strong woman and in this book she finds out there's a lot that she doesn't know about herself.
We have several characters in this book that I really liked and a few that I didn't.
The 1st is Kiyo. I don't know quite what to think about him. I wish that we knew more about his past and his involvement with the Willow queen.
I really liked Dorian. He is always going to have his best interests in mind but you know that up front. However, with the exception of the final scene, he doesn't push her to do anything she doesn't want to. He's charming and charismatic.
Tim is her fake Native American roommate. He is a riot.
Roland is her stepfather. He trained her to be a shaman. He is very biased against the gentry and is taught her to be the same. I like him he's a good man. I don't always agree with him however.
Volusian is her minion. He's evil and he wants to kill her. He continually tells her how he would like to kill her. I don't particularly like him.
Jasmine is a crazy teenage girl that she tries to rescue from the Otherworld. I like her but I want to smack her.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I can't wait to read the next one.
