Q: What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don’t like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!
I have several pet peeves in books:
1. Whiny main characters. I hate it when all the main character does is whine about how horrible her life is. Quit whining and do something about it.
2. When I can't follow who is saying what.
3. Predictable dialogue.
4. Love triangles where it's very predictable who the heroine is going to end up with.
5.When the author has written every book in a series from the 1st person viewpoint and suddenly changes it to 3rd person.
Whiny characters should be running screaming and jumping off the cliffs! thanks for following me! followed you back!

Whiny characters are a deal breaker for me. And I just don't like love triangles in general.

Love triangles and whiny characters are on my list. great answers. following back!
ReplyDeleteThe difficulty in figuring out which character is speaking is so frustrating. I see this often in YA books. I hope you are enjoying the vamp academy series. New follower!
ReplyDeleteLove triangles seems to be a popular peeve!

I hate when I can't follow who is saying what!! Following you back!!

Wow, I've never come across a book series where they changed the person written in before - and I'm glad! I think that would be completely confusing and very annoying.
ReplyDeleteFollowing you back :)
Yeah, whiny characters suck. MC's need to be proactive, or readers just get sick of them very quickly. And, I hate when I can't tell who is talking, too. Mostly, my problem is when the 3rd person narration jumps around from one head to the next, to the next, without any scene breaks or warning.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog!
Great pet peeves. I completely agree about whiney main characters. Their is no reason they should whine you are supposed to like the people you are reading about. lol I am a new follower. =]
ReplyDeleteHere is My FF
I havent come across any series like you stated but that would be rather frustrating
ReplyDelete#5 is a great one. Be consistent! :) Following back!
ReplyDeleteLove your list! I don't care for whiny characters.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your list! I mostly hate whiny characters when they have usually have no real reason to be whiny...when there is a character who I think DESERVES to whine a bit, they are always strong.
ReplyDeleteI live in AZ too! Totally agree with your pet peeves! New follower! Here's my FF: Mom Reads My Books
ReplyDeletePredictable dialogue & love triangles that aren't triangles, you're totally right. So annoying! Thanks for stopping by my blog! Happy Follow Friday! ^_^
ReplyDeleteTotally agree w/ your peeves... Thanks for the follow, I am following back :) Book Savvy Babe
ReplyDeleteHey Laura, these are all valid complaints. I too can't stand whiny characters, they make me bonkers! I see your reading Blood promise, I love the VA series, I'm reading Richelle Mead's Succubus Blues right now and it is awesome! Happy FF ;)

your three and four don"t bother me I think but I agree with the others too.
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by my blog, I'm a new follower
I hate it when there are too many POV's in a book that it makes it hard to figure out who's talking. I don't mind a few because it mixes things up but I think 3 should be the max.

Whiny characters seems to be a popular answer. I never encountered excessively whiny characters (except if maybe they had a good reason to be!) I suppose I should consider myself lucky.
ReplyDeleteMy pet peeve is very different; I'm rubbed wrong by redundancy. What do I mean? Follow me back to my blog and find out - http:///www.howardsherman.net

So many good points! I can stand a whiny heroine as long as she gets up and does something before the end of the book, and doesn't return to her whiny self in the sequel, if there is one. Hard-to-follow dialogue makes me want to go crazy! I shouldn't have to read dialogue more than once just to figure out who is saying what. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog today, and for following, and I'm following you back now!
Rachel @ Paper Cuts
Whininess is definitely irritating, it makes for a very unlikable character both in books and real life. Thanks for becoming a follower of mine, I'm now following you too.
ReplyDeleteThe Scarf Princess
YES YES YES YES YES! I totally agree! If it's so obvious, then get rid of the love triangle! I don't get it. And whiny characters make me literally want to puke over the book. And when you can't follow who is saying what, I have to spend an extra five minutes deciphering it and making inferences when I could've been reading juicy parts! Thanks for following me, I'm following you back
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I totally agree with your peeves!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday and thanks for stopping by my blog! I am a new follower :)
Oooh! The dreaded 1st to 3rd POV. Can't blame you for hating that...

Oohh...these were very excellent points. I hate whiny characters and will not even continue reading a book because of the whiny character.

Holy cow, I don't think I've encountered the POV change! Thank God for small blessings!! I agree about the whiny main character. That's one of the reasons I hate the Twilight series.

Excellent points! I am really not a fan of the whiny heroine. They can really ruin a book for me. :)

I'd have to say that love triangles are my biggest pet-peeve haha I hope you're having a brilliant weekend! Thank you so much for stopping by i swim for oceans :)
ReplyDeleteI can definitely get behind all 5 of your pet peeves. I picked love triangles but I should have thought a little harder on this one.
