Goodreads Summary:
When alchemist Sydney is ordered into hiding to protect the life of Moroi princess Jill Dragomir, the last place she expects to be sent is a human private school in Palm Springs, California. But at their new school, the drama is only just beginning.
Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Bloodlines explores all the friendship, romance, battles and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive - this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone's out for blood.
My Review:
Bloodlines is the 1st book in the spinoff series from Vampire Academy. It takes place in the human world and is told from the viewpoint of Sydney Sage, an alchemist.
I loved this book just as much, if not more, as Vampire Academy. I can relate to Sydney in so many ways. She grew up never feeling good enough. She's socially awkward but she's very, very smart. Her job is to live with Jill, the Moroi Queen Lissa’s illegitimate sister in to help keep her safe. They are enrolled at a private boarding school in Palm Springs, California. Sydney was homeschooled so she never experienced high school. This is all new for her.
I really liked getting to know Jill this book. She's in a tough position but overall she handles it pretty well. At the end of Last Sacrifice she discovered that she was the illegitimate daughter of Eric Dragomir. This makes her Lissa's half-sister. Then someone attacks her and she has to go into hiding.
Accompanying Sydney and Jill is Eddie, a Guardian. The 3 of them are posing as siblings. I feel bad for Eddie. He's got a pretty rough deal. Thanks to the events in the Vampire Academy series, he has several marks against him on his Guardian record. Hopefully in Bloodlines he'll have a chance to redeem himself.
Adrian is also a major character in this book. He's dealing with some major baggage. The breakup with Rose, the death of his great aunt, and his mother going to prison are just some of the things. Since he's Adrian, his way of dealing is alcohol and cigarettes. He does grow and change at least a little bit in this book.
There are also some new characters in this book. We meet Keith, another alchemist, Clarence, Lee, and Micah.
I really loved this book and can't wait for the 2nd one to come out.
I can't wait to read this book. I'm glad to hear that Adrian is a major character, as I loved him in the original series. Plus, I think it's great that we get to know more about Eddie. I really felt bad for him in the last book because he had to deal with so many problems.
